THE
AQUATIC
CAT
You
might wonder how a cat could have
discovered that he actually enjoys taking a bath. Most cats never get
that
chance because their humans usually assume that we hate water! In my
case
my human, had no choice but to bathe me....
I
was only eight weeks old and had
just moved in with him two or three days before. For some reason I
decided
to jump onto the kitchen table around noon. Unfortunately I had not
realized
that a plate filled with gravy was still on the table. Fortunately the
gravy was no longer hot but still rather greasy.
My human first tried to wipe my
long fur clean,
but soon he had to admit to himself that this would not work. Thus he
decided to apply a more drastic method. He carried me to the bathroom,
put me in the tub and washed me with warm water and (human) shampoo. To
his surprise I didn't fight at all. It felt rather comforting, in
fact.
About two weeks later my human
had
a visitor who
had a present for me: cat treats! And I have to admit, I LOVE cat
treats!
This was my first bag of "regular cat treats" (not made especially for
kittens)! They were filled with cheese and tasted great! Unfortunately
my little stomach was not used to delicatessen of this kind. The
following
morning I felt really sick when I woke up. My little belly was aching
and
soon I was on my way to the litter-box....
As you know, I am a Persian
cat! Well, I guess
I do not have to describe this in detail - you can probably imagine
what
part of my fur looked like when I left the litter-box again. I tried to
wipe off the dirt using our bathroom rug - unsuccessfully, I have to
admit. When my human found me like that, he put the rug into that
machine that turns around on the inside, makes a lot of noise, but
looks quite
fascinating.
I, on the other hand, was scheduled for another bath.
This time I got even more wet.
Therefore my human had to blow-dry me, as well! That way I had
discovered that bathing and
being blow-dried can be a lot of fun. Next time I found my human taking
a
bath I thus decided to "join" him. It turned out that jacuzzis are even
more fun than regular baths! When my human leaves the tub I stay in the
water
and wait for him to lift me up, wrap me in a towel and blow-dry me. By
the way, a lot of people think that I am a really big and heavyset cat.
But
those who have seen me wet know that I am in fact rather small -
50% hair, at least, I guess!
Well, believe it or not, taking
a bath at home
was only the beginning of my extravaganzas! I travel a lot. As a matter
of fact I soon began to divide my time between my human, his aunt and
his mother.
Like I said, cars (or
motor-bikes) do not frighten
me at all. One day my human and I visited another aunt of his. She
happens
to live right next to a river. My human and the others went swimming
there
and thus I decided to try this, as well.
When I took my second swim, my
human's father
brought one of these camera-thingies and made pictures to show what a
good
swimmer I really am. Well, honestly when I first swam I had not
realized
yet that being a cat I can swim using all my four paws! Instead I
merely
used the two front ones. In addition to that, I lifted my paws out of
the water and
"touched"
the surface with each stroke. That way I ended up with a lot of water
running
down my face. But don't worry - when I took my second swim that
afternoon,
I had improved my technique already!
Same as with the bath-tub, I
did not leave
the water myself but only made my way to the banks of the river and
then
waited to be lifted out ot the water by my human's mum.
